used to be a smaller station made of wood and plaster (see <a href=\"https:\/\/jevisitelyon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/premiere-gare_brotteaux-en-bois.jpg\">photo<\/a>), built in 1858 to accommodate the Lyon-Geneva line. Located in the current rue Waldeck Rousseau, this first station was designed to be quickly dismantled in times of war.<\/p><h2>Current station<\/h2><p>However, faced with the growth of rail traffic, the old station was replaced by the one you see now. Built in 1905 by the architect d&#039;Arbaut and the engineer Rascol, this new station displays a post-Haussmann style, typical of its time. Originally, it was the property of the PLM Company (Paris-Lyon-M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e, see <a href=\"https:\/\/jevisitelyon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Gare_des_Brotteaux_enseigne-PLM.jpg\">photo<\/a>).<\/p><p>However, with the advent of the TGV in the 1980s, it had to give way to the Gare de la Part-Dieu because of the challenges posed by increasing traffic.<\/p><h2>Listed building<\/h2><p>In 1982, this building was classified as a historic monument (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pop.culture.gouv.fr\/notice\/merimee\/PA00117809\">reference<\/a>). The protection extends to all of its facades, its roofs and the hall of lost steps which houses the famous Port of Marseille, a painting by Lacour (see <a href=\"https:\/\/jevisitelyon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/le-port-de-Marseille-peinture-de-lacour-gare-des-brotteaux-lyon.jpg\">photo<\/a>).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div
