The long traboule of Lyon at 54 rue Saint-Jean
💛 Why we love it
Because it truly gives the impression of traversing Old Lyon from within. The Long Traboule connects 54 rue Saint-Jean to 27 rue du Bœuf. It passes through four buildings and several successive courtyards, linking passages, galleries, staircases, and small inner courtyards. It's the longest traboule in Old Lyon. What we love most is the change of atmosphere: you leave the bustling street and, in just a few steps, find yourself in a much calmer labyrinth, with architectural elements that tell the story of several centuries of history.

54 Saint-Jean Street / 27 Beef Street

The traboule at 54 rue Saint-Jean is one of the most famous traboules in Old Lyon. Located in the Saint-Jean district, it is one of the city's many iconic passageways, connecting buildings through courtyards and staircases.

This particular traboule allows passage from Rue Saint-Jean to Rue du Bœuf, passing through several historic buildings. Walking through it, one discovers architectural elements typical of the Lyon Renaissance, such as interior courtyards, spiral staircases, and covered galleries. Traboules were once used by silk weavers, the canuts, to transport their goods sheltered from the elements.

The traboule at 54 rue Saint-Jean is a good example of the architecture of Old Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it attracts many tourists curious to discover these secret passages that are part of the city's identity.

It is freely accessible to visitors and is often mentioned in tourist circuits of Old Lyon.
