You are in front of an astonishing scene where past and present meet. Observe the 19th century villa enclosed in an office building. This singular house is the result of a fusion between an old bourgeois residence and a modern office building. This strange fusion hides a captivating story.
Built in 1889 for Roland Valla, a modest industrialist from Lyon who owned a mineral grease factory, the Valla house retains traces of its industrial past.
While the grand villas of Lyon's industrial magnates, such as the Villa Lumière or the Villa Gillet, are well known, the homes of less wealthy industrialists have often disappeared. The Maison Valla remains one of the rare remaining examples.
In the 1990s, the history of the house was disrupted by the arrival of the developer Capri, who planned to demolish it to make way for a new building. An original compromise was found, with the support of the architect of the Bâtiments de France. The construction of the building was therefore accompanied by the preservation of the house.
