The origin of the name: 1341
The bar's name directly references a founding date: 1341 is the year the very first walls were erected of what would much later become the iconic Cour des Loges. In this medieval period, the Vieux-Lyon district was beginning to take shape before experiencing its golden age during the Renaissance.
From a dairy to an Art Deco piano bar
The very place where you drank your glass has had several lives. Before being transformed into a cozy haven, this space once housed… a former dairy neighborhood.
Today, its atmosphere has been completely redesigned to evoke the intimate and timeless charm of Anglo-American piano bars of the 1930s. The decor combines an Art Deco ambiance with elegant woodwork, subdued lighting, comfortable velvet armchairs and large windows overlooking the cobbled Rue du Bœuf.

The marks of the laborers: the true signature
During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance (the periods when the buildings of Old Lyon were constructed), stonemasons and sculptors were paid "by the piece". To ensure the foreman knew exactly who had carved which stone in order to pay them, each worker engraved their own geometric symbol (a cross, a star, a letter, an angle) on the visible or hidden face of the stone.
In the inner courtyard of the Cour des Loges and in the traboules of rue du Bœuf, one can still see these centuries-old signatures if one carefully observes the dressed stones.
