Guided tour: Discovering the Lyon Opera House – Heritage Days 2026

Behind the scenes at one of Lyon's major cultural venues

On the occasion of the 2026 European Heritage Days, the’Lyon Opera opens its doors for an exceptional behind-the-scenes tour. Brilliantly restructured by architect Jean Nouvel in the early 1990s, this iconic building combines the neoclassical style of its 1831 facade with a bold contemporary glass roof overlooking the city.

Explore the public spaces, the grand opera house with its unique design, and the backstage areas usually closed to the public to discover the inner workings of operatic and choreographic creation.

Heritage Days 2026 Program

• Guided tour and behind the scenes: A journey through the foyer, the large red and black hall, and a discovery of the secrets of engineering and stagecraft.
• Discovering careers in the performing arts: Explanations of the artistic creation chain (sets, costumes, stage management, acoustics) within this large international institution.
