Discovering the Fort of Bron – Heritage Days 2026

Explore the military history of Fort Bron, a testament to 19th-century fortification.

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2026, THE Fort de Bron opens its doors for a Self-guided and guided tours of this historic site. Built in 1877 under the direction of General Sere de Rivieres, This structure is part of the Lyon military belt and constitutes a remarkable example of 19th century polygonal fortification.

During your visit, you will discover this trapezoidal fort, protected by a dry moat, and whose interior is covered with a mass of earth to absorb projectiles. You will explore its spaces, its supply depots, and understand its strategic role: to block an enemy advance towards Lyon from the heights of Chassieu or Saint-Priest. The Fort de Bron Association, created in 1982, will bring to life the history of this site, from its construction to its occupation by German troops in 1942, and finally to its conversion into a heritage and cultural site.

An immersion in military architecture and local history, at the heart of a site which today houses a museum in the process of being established and organizes numerous cultural events.

Additional information:
The Fort de Bron association organizes free guided tours every first Sunday of the month (from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm in winter, from 2 pm to 5 pm in summer). It also participates in the European Heritage Days and organizes a craft exhibition on the first Saturday and Sunday of October.
