An immersion in Belle Époque Lyon through the lens of Charles Popineau

For the 2026 European Heritage Days, the Town Hall of the 2nd arrondissement, in collaboration with the Lyon Municipal Library, presents the exhibition «Charles Popineau, a photographer from Lyon during the Belle Époque».

Equipped with his Swiss Suter camera, Charles Popineau, reporter at Lyon Republican, roamed the streets of the city from 1885 to 1927. The exhibition presents around thirty of his photographs, a precious and vivid testimony of life in Lyon at that time.
