A masterpiece of outsider art hidden in Croix-Rousse

During the European Heritage Days 2026, come and discover the Rosa Mir Garden, A true haven of outsider art nestled in an inner courtyard in Lyon's 4th arrondissement. Listed as a Historical Monument, this astonishing 400 m² mineral garden combines colonnades adorned with shells, pebbles and Mediterranean vegetation.

Created between 1957 and 1983 by Jules Senis-Mir, a Spanish-born stonemason who sought refuge in Lyon, this extraordinary place was born from a vow he made after recovering from cancer. Dedicated to his mother, Rosa Mir Mercader, this garden evokes the fantastical architecture of Ferdinand Cheval's Palais Idéal, Gaudí's Park Güell, and the Alhambra in Granada.

Heritage Days 2026 Program

• Self-guided tour of the garden: Wander among the colonnades, the mineral frescoes and the flowerbeds that shape this poetic, timeless place.
• Limited capacity: Smooth access by groups of 15 people simultaneously to preserve the magic and fragility of the site.

Access is fully free and is done in Free entry, no reservation required (A short wait may be expected at the entrance due to the health and safety capacity limits).
