Discover a unique urban and prison artwork in France

For the 2026 European Heritage Days, delve into the unusual history of the underground passage connecting the former Saint-Paul and Saint-Joseph prisons. Open to the public for only the 5th time, this mysterious site houses a monumental mural created by Didier Chamizo, a major figure and pioneer of street art in France.

An anarchist from the post-1968 era and a former bank robber who received a heavy sentence, this now internationally renowned artist transformed this passageway with the help of other inmates. The preservation and promotion of this exceptional collection of artworks was recognized with a special mention from the jury of the 2024 City of Lyon Citizen Heritage Prize.
