Gastronomy. The first "mâchon" (a traditional Lyonnais snack) at Mon Liban was a sell-out on rue Mercière –

Lyon, the world capital of gastronomy, never ceases to surprise us. In the heart of the legendary Rue Mercière, a Lyon institution with oriental influences, the restaurant My Lebanon, recently launched a unique culinary experience: the Lebanese snack. A bold concept that blends the convivial spirit of the traditional Lyonnais mâchon with the aromatic richness of Levantine cuisine. And it's safe to say that this first event was a resounding triumph, heralding a new culinary experience not to be missed.

When Lyon meets Beirut: The spirit of the Mâchon reinvented

Since 1989, Mon Liban has been an iconic address on Rue Mercière, renowned for its authentic flavors. On Friday, June 12, 2026, from 8:30 a.m., the establishment buzzed with a special energy. Nearly 80 curious and food-loving guests attended this inaugural event, filling the indoor tables and the terrace. The atmosphere was both warm and festive, enhanced by the captivating presence of Alicia Jacquet, a dancer with the Sohan company, who added a captivating oriental touch to this shared experience.

The idea behind this Lebanese snack is a real tribute to Lyon. Daniel Jacob, who has been at the helm of the restaurant since 2018, explains: «We are familiar with the Lyonnais mâchon and realized that our cuisine lends itself wonderfully to this type of conviviality. It’s a nod to Lyon, a city that has welcomed us for 35 years.» A gastronomic and cultural bridge has thus been created, praised by local figures like Simon Hoayek of Byblos, who sees it as «an extraordinary idea» and a «magnificent bridge between Lyonnais culture and the Lebanese traditions of grand breakfasts.»

A Morning Feast with Oriental Flavors

The menu for this first Lebanese mâchon transported the guests' taste buds to distant horizons, while respecting the generous spirit of the mâchon. Here is a glimpse of the delicacies offered:

  • Foul Moudammas: A comforting dish made with broad beans and chickpeas, rich in flavors.
  • Fatteh: A smooth preparation with yogurt and sesame cream, offering a delicate texture.
  • Man'ouché with Za'atar: Traditional Lebanese bread, prepared live in front of the guests, exuding captivating aromas of spices.
  • Lebanese Sausage: Stuffed with rice, it was served with calf's feet and beef tongue, a bold and tasty combination.

For a sweet touch, those with a sweet tooth were delighted by a orange blossom flan, delicately perfumed, and mini pancakes filled with walnuts, closing this feast on an exquisite note.

More than a meal: A crossroads of encounters and dynamism

Beyond the culinary experience, Mon Liban's Lebanese lunch aims to be a true catalyst for social and economic connection. Daniel Jacob and his partner Samuel Jacob, delighted with the success of this first event, aspire to make it a monthly occurrence. "The goal is to foster encounters and create momentum," explains the director.

This initiative is particularly relevant in the current context of Rue Mercière. Hit hard by urban development projects and the closure of major thoroughfares, the street has seen its activity decline by nearly 401%. This traditional Lyonnais snack is therefore an original and festive way to revitalize the neighborhood, inviting businesses and local stakeholders to come together and network in a friendly atmosphere.

My Lebanon: An Award-Winning Institution

Mon Liban is not a newcomer to the Lyon gastronomic scene. Awarded by a Golden Fork in 2021, The establishment is a benchmark for authentic Lebanese cuisine. By launching this mâchon concept, now open 7 days a week, Mon Liban is writing a new chapter in its history, proving its ability to innovate while remaining true to its roots and the gourmet spirit of Lyon.
