🥨 The Saga of the Lyon Bugne
Did you know that the word "Bigne" comes from the old Lyonnais dialect? bugni A true emblem of Mardi Gras, this delicacy was once the specialty of the city's butchers.📍 Our 3 favorite addresses:
- At the Marquise (Old Lyon),
- Pignol (Bellecour)
- Sève (Halles Paul Bocuse).
🥖 The Canuts Bakery
A Croix-Rousse institution facing the famous painted wall. Here, the bugne reigns supreme and bread is a religion. The must-try: Their artisanal bugnes are both light and wonderfully fragrant.📍 18 rue d'Ivry, 69004 Lyon
✨ Warning: highly greedy images…
So, are you a fan of the Canuts team?
🥨 Why is it an institution?
-
La Bugne, precisely: At this time of year, they are among the best. They have perfected the Lyonnaise bugne (the crispy one), but their brioche versions are also little clouds of sugar.
-
The setting: Located directly opposite the Mur des Canuts (the famous trompe-l'œil), the bakery is at the heart of Lyon's working-class history. It's the perfect stop after admiring the mural.
-
"Canut" bread: They work with quality flours and their country bread has that well-baked crust and airy crumb that you don't find everywhere anymore.
🦁 Je Visite Lyon's review
This is the bakery of "real" Lyon. People come here for the smell of fresh bread that fills the street at dawn. It's the perfect place to grab a bugne to go and enjoy it on Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse while taking in the view of the city.
